Spelling Bee Championship 2024

Rule and Regulation:

    Eligibility:

    All spellers must meet the following requirements:

    • Participants must be currently enrolled in class 6 to 10.
    • Participants must not have reached their 16th birthday before the day of the Championship Finals.
    • Participants must have register on-line and completed Championship Form, no later than 15th days before event.
    • Access to the necessary forms will be provided to the speller upon receipt of the school’s consent and sponsorship of the speller.
    • The 2024 school Pronouncer Guide will be used as the word list in the final spelling bee contest; the same word list should be used as reference for preparation. A copy of the word list will be provided with each Championship Form registration through different collection point.
    • Participants must not forego any school activities or school classes in favor of preparation for the spelling bee. The Spelling Bee Committee may disqualify any participant who provides false information on the application or who violates any rules of the ‘Spelling Bee Contest’.

    Format:

    The competition will be conducted in 4 distinct sessions.

    • Preliminaries: This session is to prepare and introduce participants to the spelling bee contest. It consists of 20 multiple choice questions and a round of oral spelling.
    • Quarterfinals: The quarterfinals consist of rounds of oral spelling. Failing to spell the word correctly there will be subsequent elimination in each of these rounds in the quarter final.
    • Semifinals: The semi-final consists of oral spelling. Spellers who have not misspelled in this round will advance to the Championship final.
    • Championship Finals: The Championship final consists of oral spelling. All spellers who have not been eliminated from the semi final session will spell one word in each round until one speller is left who hasn’t misspelled any words.

Webster’s Third New International Dictionary and its addenda section, copyright 2002, Merriam Webster, (Webster Third) is the final authority for the spelling of all words. All words given in the competition are entries in the Webster’s Third. If more than one spelling is listed then any of these spelling will be accepted as correct if it fulfills the following criteria:

Pronunciation and Definition of the word is identical.

The word is clearly identified being a standard variant of the other. (Student can also use Cambridge Dictionary and Oxford Dictionary-as reference only)
